A.T. Kearney's Managing Officer and Chairman of the Board, Paul Laudicina, held a fireside chat on Wednesday, October 18 at Hyde Park Centre. The discussion was moderated by Dean Edward A. Snyder and organized by Chicago GSB MBA Career Services. During the two hour informal chat, Paul Laudicina spoke about the changes taking place in the business environment driven by macroeconomic and political factors. He also spoke about the Globalization Index, which is the firm's annual ranking of the world's most globalized nations.

The Dean discussed Laudicina's book, World Out of Balance (McGraw-Hill, 2005). The book is largely based on the research and insights of A.T. Kearney's prestigious Global Business Policy Council. They also discussed A.T. Kearney's role in helping public and private sector companies deliver the next generation of globalization. Laudicina used the term "helicopter effect" to describe the importance of not only having a broad based understanding of the global marketplace but also knowing where to dive down to get a more detailed understanding. The dean asked questions on management buy-out of the firm from its former parent company, EDS.

Paul Laudicina spoke about the collaborative style used by the firm to service its clients. He also touched on work-life balance issues facing the consulting industry. He discussed the culture within AT Kearney and the various options offered by the firm to foster a better work-life balance for its consultants.
