Another topic of discussion was the U.S.'s involvement or lack of involvement in the Asian business environment. During his keynote speech, Mr. Pomper (U.S. Senate Finance Committee) called on the government to engage in trade discussions with Asian countries. In addition, he discussed the still nonexistent intellectual property protection and the discriminatory standards placed on American companies by the Chinese governments. He quoted Mr. Sean King from an earlier panel as saying that there will never be a Chinese Bill Gates unless China institutes intellectual property protection. Budding Chinese entrepreneurs of today find it in their interest to take their new ideas to the U.S. or U.K., where those ideas will be protected.

There conference wrapped up mid-afternoon, with an hour long cocktail reception in the Winter Garden. The co-chairs of this event spent hundreds of hours planning this year's conference. Their hard work and late nights paid off as the conference unfolded smoothly. The panelists and speakers each brought with them an interesting perspective of doing business in Asia. Their unique viewpoints resulted in spirited discussions among the panelists and speakers. The ideas brought up at this conference will be discussed long after this conference is over, making this conference a resounding success.
