This past weekend, 32 GSB Students and one GSB professor participated in the Chicago Marathon. Their participation was part of the 2nd annual Marathon Charity Challenge against Kellogg and Ross (University of Michigan) business schools. The challenge combines the times of the top 3 male runners and top 2 female runners. In addition to the running times, 1 minute is subtracted from a team's time for every $10 raised for charity. The winning school receives all funds raised by all the teams for their charity of choice.
Race day yesterday was a balmy 44 degrees, but that didn't stop the GSB runners or the crowd from having a great day. As of this article, the preliminary results are showing the GSB had the best overall time and the largest fundraising total. Thus, it appears that the GSB team's charity, the James Jordan Boys and Girls Club (a youth development center on the west side of Chicago) will be receiving a check for $6,621.
Congratulations to all those who competed yesterday and a special thank you to all those that contributed donations to our cause. I'd also like to send a special thank you to Darrin Decosta who went the extra effort with fundraising and really helped drive up our figure.
