For second years, the past twelve months have simply flown by, and before we could even begin to become acclimatized to Chicago and our surroundings again (for those of us who completed our internships away from the Windy City), here we are, back for an encore performance. Indeed, the past week has been saturated with presentations, corporate dinners, student-led group commitments and classes and, with first-round interviews but a few weeks away, relief seemingly wasn't going to come for some time. Well, amongst all this academic and professional activity, the enCORE team and the GBC felt it was essential to offer returning students an opportunity to unwind and reconnect with friends by giving them a series of varied social events to choose from.
And to our delight, for many of you, it was just what the doctor had ordered and you came out in droves.
From going to dizzying heights and speeds atop the Superman ride at Six Flags to stomping the floor and clapping our hands to the hallelujahs of the gospel choir during the brunch at the House of Blues to cheering on the boys of summer, aka the Chicago Cubs, from a nearby rooftop as they took on and decisively defeated the Cincinnati Reds 11-2, we marveled at the sights and sounds that all enCORE events had to offer and most importantly we reveled in each other's company.
Other events included a trip to the Resorts East Chicago Riverboat Casino, where a number of participants actually came out ahead, and a Wine Tasting event prior to TNDC, "tastefully" organized and co-sponsored by the Wine Club. Although all the enCORE events were highly enjoyable and memorable in their own right, my personal favorite was the reception held at the Signature Room at the summit of the John Hancock Center. We benefited from an unusually clear evening, which afforded us some spectacular views of the city and across the lake all the way into Michigan. Every detail was attended to by the Signature Room's conscientious staff, which made for a truly perfect evening: the room itself was simply yet elegantly decorated, the refreshments delightful and plentiful and, given that I was in great company, I believe I speak for everyone who was present when I say that it was not only the "signature" event of enCORE, but also one of the highlights that we've experienced to date.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to enCORE's smashing success, including all of you who attended - without your enthusiasm, there's no way we could have pulled off enCORE as successfully! We look forward to putting on more social events for you in the weeks and months to come.
