How was your Spring break?

You did something really special! Good for you!! Or as we say here, "Good stuff." Just a minute, what is that?

A fellow student saved an impressive lot off his student loan. As the winter quarter drew to an end, he got invitations to join some friends on trips and escapades. Even the loudly looming finals and the hoopla around recruiting were not enough to drown these enticing invitations. The more he thought about the deals, the more he remembered the "light at the end of the tunnel." Did he sign up for a trip? Your guess is as good as mine.

The trip was all he had imagined - cruises, great sights, adventures. The pictures he sent back said it all. I was looking forward to seeing his renewed and energetic self. I ran into him a while ago. It was a disappointing sight - he's been in a thoughtful mood since he returned. He underestimated the real cost of taking part in that trip. He came back to some obligations and now he wishes he hadn't spent all that money.

You feel sorry for him? I do too. But guess what? There is no need to feel sorry and there's probably no one to feel sorry for. Why? I made this up. This story is fictitious!

Did you really believe it? I have some friends here and they would easily share such personal stuff with me. If they did, they wouldn't permit me to publish their adventures. Full disclosure right there!!! That said, problems like this exist and some folks could use some tips on how to replenish the savings they divested during the spring break. Looking to cut cost? Here is where to look:

Food & Water

As a student in the Hyde Park Center, you are blessed! There are taps everywhere you look. Never buy another bottle of water while here; drink from those taps! Get yourself a good bottle, fill it from a tap and take it with you everywhere, even to the cafeteria. Let me know if the water from the tap hurts you. The law school is close by; we'll just get some lawyers from there.
